Microsoft announced today that starting on August 1st, 2026, XBOX consoles are getting a price increase for all models. They will also be sunsetting the 2TB XBOX Series X model.
XBOX consoles that are 512GB models will go up by $100 USD and the 1TB XBOX models will go up by $150 USD.
In October 2025, we have already seen XBOX console prices increase by $20 to $70 USD. The reason for the price increase is that console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x, as Microsoft states. They expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.
“The entire consumer electronics industry is struggling with the current components crisis, but the effects are particularly hard on consoles. Unlike phones, computers, speakers, and other consumer devices, consoles are typically not sold at a profit, but instead for less than they cost to make.”
Here are the current prices of XBOX Series consoles and what they will become once August 1 hits:
XBOX Series S 512GB $399 – New Price $499
XBOX Series S 1TB $449- New Price $599
XBOX Series X 1TB $649 – New Price $799
XBOX Series X 1TB Digital $599 – New Price $750
Console prices are expected to go up further as Nintendo Switch 2 will see an increase come September. PlayStation 5 has already received a couple of increases and the trend is expected to continue. With Grand Theft Auto 6 coming out this year, it’s the best time to upgrade your console because prices won’t get cheaper.
