Update (5/13/17): Twitter user VtnVivi points out an Instagram post from seemingly now ex-director of the Sly Cooper movie Kevin Munroe. Munroe took to Instagram the other day (same day as what follows below in the article) that he’d been dropped by Sony. This doesn’t come to anyone as a surprise after the absolute flop the Ratchet & Clank movie was. If true, I welcome this as I’d love to see someone fit to direct this movie be put into place.

Original story: Jesus, if there’s one thing about Sony is they literally will take forever on some of their projects.
Sony Interactive Entertainment tried to push their PlayStation Originals movement including the TV Show Powers and the movies The Last of Us, Uncharted, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet & Clank. Only Ratchet & Clank and Powers released. Ratchet didn’t do well at all both financially and critically. Powers did well at first which gave it a second season.
Announced on January 28th, 2014, the world of PlayStation was hyped to see their favorite thief hit the big screen. We haven’t really heard much about it since until almost 3 years later on January 23rd, 2017 when Rainmaker Animations changed the trailer from Sly Cooper “Breaking Into Theaters in 2016” to “The Movie”. Also in March 2017, the studio updated their site to make the movie page say to say “In Development”.
But here we are in May 2017, the producer of the movie has finally said something about the movie after a LONG time.
Brad Foxhoven (which was also a producer on the Ratchet & Clank movie) took to Twitter a few days ago and said he’s got something to say but just can’t say it yet.

I personally believe we’ll see a new trailer at E3 alongside a new game announcement from Sanzaru. Sanzaru made Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time while Sucker Punch was working on inFamous: Second Son and inFamous: First Light. Thieves in Time was left on a cliffhanger, so hopefully we’ll see another title in the Thieves in Time story. In a 2015 interview (skip to 9:50), Sanzaru said they’d love to finish the story but they’d need Sony’s approval.
