Shawn Layden: "There will be a PlayStation 5 and Sony believes in console generations"

Following the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro last year, and the upcoming Xbox One X, many gamers are fearing that consoles are going to go the iterative route, like smartphones. Sony, however, is still a believer in console generations.

Shawn Layden, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios in an interview with the German website Golem.de said – “The PlayStation 5 is the next step forward for the company” and that it is not coming anytime soon “It will probably be some time”. This is not the first time that Sony has talked about the next PlayStation console, last year after the release of the PS4 Pro.

Mark Cerny lead architect of PlayStation, said he does not believe console generations will go away. If most of Sony’s big games get released in 2018 as planned, God of War (4), Marvel’s Spider-Man etc. Then I could see Sony releasing a PlayStation (PS5) 5 in 2019, at the earliest.
