For those unaware, Unity is a popular game engine which is primarily used to develop video games and simulations for computers, consoles, and mobile devices. Indie developers normally choose Unity due to its easy availability, great support and a very large community across the globe. Earlier today, Unity announced the support for Microsoft’s upcoming console, here’s what they said:
“Unity is excited to announce that support for Xbox One X is available now. Get ready to develop for the increased power and 4K HDR output of Microsoft’s newest console. Developers will be able to create projects that can be deployed seamlessly to any member of the Xbox One family: Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X. Taking advantage of the increased power and 4K HDR output of the Xbox One X is as easy as changing some quality settings.”
So how do you start developing?
“The process of developing for Xbox One X is the same as developing for the existing Xbox One family. Unity for Xbox One is available to anyone with an Xbox One development kit. To learn more about the ID@Xbox program for independent developers, head over to www.xbox.com/id to sign up for Microsoft’s independent developer publishing program for Xbox One.
Once you’ve registered as a Microsoft developer, a representative will be in contact with you to let you know when you’ve been given access to the Xbox One Development forum for Unity. Here you can find an active community of other developers, gain support from Unity, and download the Xbox One Unity editor add-on.”
Xbox Gamescom is in six days at 8 PM GMT, more info can be found here.
