Nintendo and Kellogg’s have confirmed the rumors of the Super Mario Cereal. This cross promotion will act as advertising for Super Mario Odyssey, and hit store shelves around December 11. Not only does the box feature Super Mario Odyssey artwork, it also functions as an amiibo when you are done with it. You can tap your Joy-Con or Pro Controller to the box just like an amiibo to earn coins and hearts in game. The cereal itself is also inspired by Mario, with themed marshmallows shaped like question mark blocks and mushrooms.

“We are thrilled to pack so much fun into one box of cereal,” said Brad Schwan, Senior Director of Morning Foods Marketing. “The package adds value and excitement for fans, with marshmallow shapes in the cereal inspired by Super Mario power-ups to tie the theme together.”

This is a very “90’s” move from Nintendo, with old promotions including Pokémon Pop-Tarts and the old ‘got milk?’ commercials. Be sure to check your grocery store for this interesting promotional cereal soon, who knows if the amiibo scalpers will hit cereal next.
