The retro-inspired Sonic game Sonic Mania has officially sold over 1 million copies worldwide, just over eight months since it first launched last year. Sega noted the milestone in a recent issue of the Japanese magazine Famitsu while discussing the game’s upcoming Sonic Mania Plus release and DLC.
The game was developed by a team of longtime Sonic fans, one of whom grabbed Sega’s attention through an unofficial Sonic CD mobile port.
It was also announced that this Summer 2018: Sonic Mania Plus which is a physical edition of the title will be launching for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It will also come with an all new ‘encore mode’ and an expanded four player competitive mode. The package also comes with a lenticular slip cover, a reversible Genesis/Mega Drive sleeve plus an exclusive 32-page art book. Not too shabby for a $30.00/€30.00 retail price. If you’ve already bought a digital version of Sonic Mania on Switch, an Encore DLC pack will be available for sale to access the new features.
