With the three major console companies Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo setting the margin for at home gaming either it being the Playstation 4, Xbox One or the latest Nintendo Switch. But according to a report by Kotaku, Google might be getting added to the mix.
The earliest word on Google’s attempt of entering the gaming market was back in February, reported by tech outlet The Information. Where the tech company met with different developers and publishers showing interest in a stream-based platform under the codename ‘Yeti’. Then recently discussed during E3, the company not only wants to push the streaming platform, but as well grab developers for the unannounced console, Kotaku‘s sources reports.
For Google path to pursue the gaming market wasn’t clear, but the outlet had a general statement for how the company lays out their plan in three parts:
- Some sort of streaming platform.
- Some sort of hardware.
- Attempt to bring in developers, either aggressive recruiting or even acquisition.
While this seems exciting for tech company Google as they attempt to step foot into the industry, take notice on how Google performed prior to this recent news. Back in 2014, the company was reported to acquire Twitch, but failed to as Amazon beat them to it. Following later with an Android-based console, until it ultimately ended up not happening.
Overall this news will be exciting to see how it pulls through in the near future if Google is serious about creating a gaming platform. With streaming becoming more and more popular, this could be a strong suit for the tech company.
