This year will be the ten year anniversary for the announcement of the Uncharted film adaptation which took place back in 2009, and while the project has taken its time to come to fruition, a new Director has emerged to take the role for the Nathan Drake movie. Back in August, it was announced that then-Director Dan Trachtenberg resigned from the position leaving the film to be without anyone at the helm, however, it was still in stone that Spider-Man’s Tom Holland will still be the lead for the upcoming film.
Now this past weekend, it was revealed through a report from Deadline that the PlayStation Pictures production has found a new person to be the movie’s Director. Revealing that Travis Knight will be the latest Director for the Uncharted film: Knight is still fresh to the live-action genre as his first project only released last December with Transformers spin-off Bumblebee.
The new Director has a larger portfolio with films centered around stop motion animation with Coraline, Paranorman, and The Boxtrolls. How his previous work will reflect onto the monumental video game franchise from Sony Interactive Entertainment will be interesting to witness knowing Knight is still settling into the medium of filmmaking.
The script also was reported to have acquired a few writers to compose: Art Marcum (Iron Man), Matt Holloway (Transformers: The Last Knight), and Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Both Marcum & Holloway share previous work, primarily with the Transformers films, which looks to possibly influence the decision for the two to be involved for Nathan Drake’s story with Knight as the Director.
Evidently from the choice of actor, the report also shares that the plot for the movie is set around the upcoming adventures of Nathan Drake as a young adult as he morphs into the risk-taking plunderer that fans are familiar with from the video game series.
There is no word yet on when the Uncharted film will arrive to the box office.
