Today has been a worrisome day for event attendees as it was just disclosed elsewhere that the 25th anniversary for QuakeCon has been squandered due to the growing impact from the novel coronavirus. Now in a separate announcement regarding this coming May’s Combo Breaker, the organizer revealed that the yearly competition will unfortunately face the same demise.

Revealed in a blog post on the event’s website, the orchestrators for the three-day show announced that 2020 will be absent of Combo breaker during this year’s Memorial Day weekend.

The COMBO BREAKER team is gutted to announce that, following government guidance and our own judgment regarding COVID-19, COMBO BREAKER 2020 is cancelled. We recognize the significant impact this decision has on our attendees, partners, sponsors, staff, venue, and community, but believe it is currently the only move to make. May we collectively make it through this difficult time as passionately as when we all began.

Combo Breaker was initially scheduled to take place on May 22, 2020 – May 24, 2020.

Starting April 20, the event organizers will begin issuing refunds to the attendees who have already purchased their admission to the show. Participants that have already paid for their stay at the event’s advertised hotel will keep their room as the organizers have pushed the bookings to the following year in line for Combo breaker 2021.

To enrich the disappointing announcement, Combo Breaker did share that the organizers will be sending a selection of items to those who will be receiving refunds: the respected badge for this year’s show, a ‘No Coast, No Kings’ lanyard, 50-page commemorative magazine, and a themed pin for the event. Even more, the event will be selling this year’s merchandise online which you can view by heading here.

Were you planning on visiting Combo Break before the event was cancelled?
