Apple has acquired its first-ever game development studio, it was announced yesterday. RAC7 Games is a 2-person studio based in Vancouver, Canada, and has shipped the game Sneaky Sasquatch in 2019. Terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed by either side.
RAC7 will now become an internal game studio within Apple, and they acquired the studio to help Sneaky Sasquatch continue to grow on Apple Arcade. It’s one of the most popular games on the Apple Arcade and was one of the first games on the service when it went live.
Apple had already been working with other developers and publishers on bringing games exclusively to Apple Arcade. We’ve seen previously a partnership with SEGA to bring Sonic titles to the platform only on there.
What Is Sneaky Sasquatch?
Sneaky Sasquatch is a 2019 adventure game where players play as Sasquatch, who lives near a campground and is friends with local wildlife. These animals serve various different roles throughout the game (a raccoon serving as a shopkeeper, ducks doing construction, etc.). Gameplay initially revolves around stealing food from campers and hiding from park rangers. After obtaining human clothes, Sasquatch mingles among humans and participates in human activities, competes in sports, and later can get a bank account and get jobs like a doctor, police officer, or an office executive.
