ASUS Announces New ROG XBOX Ally X20, Pairs It With AR Gaming Glasses

Last fall, ASUS & Microsoft left fans excited for the new ROG XBOX Ally handheld. In September, it was revealed that the base model ROG XBOX Ally would cost $599.99 while the beefier ROG XBOX Ally X would cost heftier $999.99 at retail. Despite the high ask, both handhelds sold out within the first couple of days across most major online storefronts.

Earlier this month, ASUS announced a new iteration of the ROG XBOX Ally is coming. Equipped with an OLED screen and augmented reality gaming glasses, ASUS announced the ROG XBOX Ally X20. The decision to include the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses is to commemorate ROG’s 20th anniversary.

“In normal operation, the D-pad has 4 movement axis, typical for most controller games. But when rotated 90 degrees, the D-pad opens up to 8-axis movement, perfect for fighting games where precision sweeps across the circumference are crucial for hitting those combos. […] At the same time, we’ve refined the face buttons, sitting them more flush with the chassis and reducing the actuation force. This provides a quieter sound, smoother thumb sliding between buttons, and less fatigue during long play sessions.”
