Just over a month ago, developer Gearbox Software announced big changes arriving to Borderlands 3 in the coming months. Among what major additions that will be reinvigorating the game on current console platforms, the studio shares that the 2019-launched sequel will be shipping to next-generation systems. While not giving a specific time for the newer hardware, the versions are projected to arrive close to the unit’s release.

Among support for the new Xbox and PlayStation, Gearbox Software also disclosed cross-platform play, and four-screen splitscreen will be integrated into Borderlands 3 in the coming future as well. This week, the developer has resurfaced just one month exactly after the initial reveal to tell that next-generation versions are scheduled to arrive to consoles on day one.

In a new blog post, the studio elaborates by telling that the wait is only until you have the console in your possession.

Borderlands is a ground-breaking, record-setting, critically acclaimed franchise where millions upon millions of gamers have experienced one-of-a-kind gameplay, mayhem, and fun across multiple generations of gaming technology. With Borderlands 3 continuing to grow and launching this November on next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, there has never been a better time to jump in and join the fun.

Randy Pitchford, Gearbox Software Founder

Either picking up the game on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5, fans from either platform can find that their system of choice will be offering a free download to install depending on the console family your initial purchase resides on. Furthermore, there will be additional appendages for the versions including support for 4K resolution and 60 frames per second.

As clarified in the original post, Borderlands 3 will not be expecting cross-play when the next-generation versions release. Howbeit, the wait is not expected to be long now with the team’s DLC campaign already being four story expansions deep. For now, cross-play is only available on the Steam and Epic Game Store versions of the game – which you can read all about by heading here.

Borderlands 3 arrives to Xbox Series X on November 10, 2020 and PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020 & November 19, 2020; out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Epic Games Store, Stadia, and Steam.
