When it comes to the architecture of the approaching Xbox Series X, the firm has spared plenty of information on the next-generation console generously which is a big contrast to its competitor, Sony. While the core elements of the new hardware is public knowledge now for both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, there is a better understanding of how the piece operates on Microsoft’s side of things currently.

Not only that, but we can also hear from developers the type of capabilities that the approaching Xbox Series X is able to achieve in contrast to its preceding sibling consoles. When speaking with Xbox Wire recently, Codemasters Technical Director David Springate elaborates on some of the impressive results he found when working with the system’s custom built SSD in the Xbox Series X.

Obviously, that SSD drive is incredible. It’s not like a PC SSD, it’s more than that. Being able to load data so ridiculously fast is not only really impressive but as a developer, it’s very interesting. For Dirt 5, we’re going to be able to get into races super fast. It means no loading screens getting in the way, no dawdling, no looking at my phone, it means that the action will be non-stop.

Continuing on in the interview, Spingate further illustrates his interest and is eager to see how much the new component in the system can be stressed later on. “There are loads of things for us to still explore in the new hardware but I’m most intrigued to see what we can do with the new SSD drive and the hardware decompression capabilities in the Xbox Velocity Architecture.

“The drive is so fast that I can load data mid-frame, use it, consume it, unload and replace it with something else in the middle of a frame, treating GPU memory like a virtual disk. How much texture data can I now load? I’m looking forward to pushing this as far as I can to see what kind of beautiful experiences we can deliver.”

In a new trailer for Dirt 5, Codemasters announces that the new mainline entry for the racing franchise will officially hit current-generation systems in the second week of October. You can read the full report by heading here.
