Cuphead, a run and gun indie video game developed and published by StudioMDHR will be launching on the Nintendo Switch on April 18th. The game was originally revealed in 2014 for the Xbox One and Windows 10. Later in 2017, Cuphead launched on Xbox and Steam and had a great launch hitting 2 million copies sold through its first 3 months. Today during the Nintendo Switch Nindies showcase, they opened up the show with the announcement of the run and gun title coming to the unique console next month.

The game is available for pre-purchase on the eShop right now for $20.00.

We had a feeling Cuphead would be coming to the Nintendo Switch since Microsoft has been planning on bringing Xbox Live to mobile devices (which they officially announced) and Nintendo’s console. They haven’t talked about the service coming to the Switch yet.

Microsoft revealed via the Xbox Wire that Cuphead on the Switch will have Xbox Live support. The Xbox Live feature will be implemented in a post-launch update to the game on the Switch.

“We’ll be working with StudioMDHR to implement Xbox Live features into Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch in the coming months.”

For now, the game will have custom achievements integrated into the Switch version until the Xbox Live features come into play.

In addition, it was revealed that thanks to the work on the Switch version, the filesize has been reduced on all platforms by nearly 7GB in addition to reduced load times. It will run at a native 720p/60 fps in handheld mode, though no word on docked just yet. The Delicious Last Course DLC will launch alongside the Xbox and PC versions as well. It was also confirmed that the game will be getting a physical release sometime after the DLC, as well as a Collectors Edition.

All platforms will receive a free patch on April 18th (Switch launch date) adding more features to the game. New art, animated cut-scenes, and even a playable Mugman in single player. It’s a great time for Cuphead fans.

The Switch version will be playable for the first time at PAX East next week in Boston, MA.
