Cyberpunk 2077 sequel enters pre-production phase

Cyberpunk 2077 turns five years old this year, and there has been a lot of wonder about what’s next for the series. Today, CD PROJEKT RED announced that ‘Cyberpunk 2’ has entered the pre-production phase. 

This confirms that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will be titled just “Cyberpunk 2,” and it’s still very early in development. 

The developer hasn’t shared any other details. It’s worth noting that the pre-production phase could still take a couple of years before it enters full-on development. Currently, CD PROJEKT RED is working on The Witcher 4, which got its debut trailer last year.

Cyberpunk 2077 creator, Mike Pondsmith, did an interview at Digital Dragons 2025 and shared that ‘Project Orion’, now known as Cyberpunk 2, will feature an entirely new city separate from Night City. The new city is going to feel more like “Chicago gone wrong,” said Pongsmith. 

Cyberpunk 2 is likely going to be sometime before it releases because The Witcher 4 is not expected to come out until after 2026. 

CD PROJEKT RED is still going to see more sales come for Cyberpunk 2077 as the Ultimate Edition will be releasing on the Switch 2 next week as a launch title. It includes the base game and the Phantom Liberty Expansion for $69.99 USD, and it will be a true physical release on cartridge.
