Dead Space Film In The Works With Director Picked, John Carpenter Reveals

When it comes to some of our favorite titles, the experiences that we confront is what makes these franchises so memorable. And with the tales they tell, adapting that to film and exploring these universes through cinema is an approach fans are always welcome to consume. For Dead Space, it is a surprise no official plans for a film has surfaced. With projects like Bioshock being tossed around for more than a decade before landing at Netflix, why hasn’t the same come to Dead Space?

For fans of the series, it is not secret that the games certainly take inspiration from productions sharing similar DNA. For instance, 1982’s The Thing is certainly an influence on many of the brutalized enemies that Isaac Clarke faces. Of course, other movies such as The Abyss as well as Alien also fueled the creative process for the Visceral Games trilogy.

But in a recent interview with John Carpenter via Variety, he reveals there is a Dead Space film in the works. Previously, he shared interest mantle the director’s chair for this project already being a fan of the video game series, but he explains that the position was already determined. “I’m a big video game fan, so I played all the games. I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a ‘Dead Space’ film,” he explains.

“That just went around, and everybody said, ‘Oh, when are you gonna do it?’ I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved. And they haven’t asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it. But there’s a new version of the ‘Dead Space’ video game coming out in January, and I’m there.” Details as to who the elected director is or the production team behind the film has yet to be determined.

This month, Dead Space comes full circle with a complete remake of the original 2008 title. Atop of that, Fortnite went ahead to celebrate this release with the ‘Strange Transmissions Quest Pack’ which includes cosmetic items based off of the franchise.
