This E3 might be one of the most memorable in contrast to previous annual shows primarily due to the latest Square Enix press conference as the Japanese publisher properly presented a full-length demo for the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake and topped off the showing with the game’s early March release date. And while this does give players a confirmed release window for the completely reworked 1997 title, this is only for the first of three segments for the project.
Regarding when players will have to expect the second part to officially arrive is unknown due to the first still being in the development currently. However, in a latest developer breakdown on the project, some information regarding part two has seeped through the cracks. Director Tetsuya Nomura shared in his portion of the blog post that development has already kicked off for the next segment of the remake.
We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar.
To give more context about Nomura’s statement, he shares that with the addition of new character bosses that were not present in the original PlayStation title will only add more depth that was not present for those who played the title two decades ago. “Even in this Midgar portion alone, the density and volume are so great that I had to give directions to lighten them,” Nomura tells about the first part.
More so on the story of the March-scheduled first part, Writer Kazushige Nojima tells that the plot and how Cloud is portrayed will be less work through player imagination as the remake enforces more traditional storytelling that we are subjected to in modern games. While the original did leave players to fill in the gaps themselves, the remake will instead do that which Nojima is afraid might not fancy fans who played the 1997 game.
