Now that the latest Battlefield title is settled after what felt like an eternity waiting for details on the long-rumored title, the announcement ceases to stop. Most recently during EA Play Live in July, DICE & Ripple Effect announced Battlefield Portal: a collaborative project that meshes previous Battlefield releases into one experience with the community at the helm of the new project coming.
Additionally, DICE also elaborates on its plans for the multiplayer-only experience. In that, Battlefield 2042 while offering 128-player lobbies is said to utilize bots for its in-game matches. However, there is more to how matchmaking will work for the game. The firm goes on to add that cross-play & cross-progression will be implemented coming launch.
In a press release recently, DICE announced that the Xbox Series console is the official platform for Battlefield 2042. “EA and Xbox have partnered to make Xbox Series X|S the official consoles of the game […] ensure that the next entry in the Battlefield franchise is the best one yet,” says DICE regarding the partnership. Also transcribed by Tweak Town is the list of additional partnerships with companies for Battlefield 2042 which you can read below:

Of course, this does not mean that Battlefield 2042 will be an exclusive release to Xbox One or the Series consoles. However, it does confirm Xbox will be plastered anywhere Battlefield 2042 is to be seen. Speaking with Xbox Senior Marketing Manager Josh Munsee, he explains to Windows Central’s Jez Corden that “marketing, branding, gameplay capture, etc.” is part of the agreement.
This is no secret with the marketing ties that Electronic Arts holds with Microsoft. In the past, we witnessed the same for Battlefield V. During that, Rectify Gaming initially reported on the matter which also included Cyberpunk 2077, Borderlands 3, and The Elder Scrolls VI. You can read the full report by heading here.
