In a new report surfacing this week, Electronic Arts has established a new deal to integrate The Sims into everyday television on TBS. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new four-episode series titled Spark’d will be coming in the near future based on a reality show structure where prolific The Sims players will compete for a cash prize of $100,000.
In the new short series, Spark’d will be operated under Elaugue and Buzzfeed Multiplayer with American Idol finalist Rayvon Owen hosting the show. YouTube Kelsey Impicciche, performer Tayla Parx, and The Sims developer Miotke will be posed as judges for the new televised experience.
Since its inception, The Sims has been a groundbreaking experience, allowing players to create and virtually live out the stories they create in-game. That’s what makes it so special. That’s also why this show is so exciting. We’re continuing that innovative spirit, bringing our community together to compete and showcase their in-game storytelling on a reality show in an entirely new way.
Lyndsay Pearson, The Sims General Manager
The premise of Spark’d is structured to have popular The Sims players compete as they develop unique and creative story scenarios where they have the opportunity to win $100,000. It is reported that fans from home can also participate in challenges for a chance to be featured in a future Spark’d showing. It was not disclosed how the challenges will be placed for players to interact when the show is live.
This month has already offered video game-related television shows that were not expected to come to fruition like My Friend Pedro. It was told that John Wick writer John Kolstad will be penning the script after his pitch for the series was picked up by D12 Entertainment. You can read the full report by heading here.
