For avid video game players, it should be no surprise that the biggest gaming show in North American has been cancelled nearly a month ago now. I’m talking about the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the event was shelved for 2020 due to the precautionary measures to restrain spread of the ongoing outbreak for the novel coronavirus.
However, the event’s organizer, Electronic Software Association (ESA), has disclosed that next year’s “reimagined” event is already being established. The show’s orchestrators tell that E3 2021 will be taking place from June 15 to June 17.
With the closure of this year’s annual event, publishers have gone to the lengths of pursuing alternative motives in digital format. As of yet, the ESA have yet to share whether or not the show can expect to be broadcasted online instead since the event has been canned for public attendance. Howbeit, Microsoft & Ubisoft have already disclosed to explore hosting online presentations due to the event’s cancellation.
Even more, it was announced this week by video game outlet IGN that the website will be hosting its own ‘Summer of Gaming’ showcase to feature some of the largest companies and developers in the industry. Revealing that studios like Bandai Namco, Sega, Square Enix, and THQ Nordic are just some of teams that will be participating in this digital showcase.
The ever rising approach to online-hosted showcases/presentations might become the norm whenever the COVID-19 pandemic finally settles down. While it is tradition for these tangible shows to be scheduled every year, the convenience for more users to participate from home does look to be in the favor of the respected organizer. Not to mention the capital that can be saved by online alternatives, it is foreshadowed that this could potentially be the future for gaming events.
Other events, like the Game Developers Conference (GDC), have not given up on 2020 just yet as organizers Informa Tech announced that the show will commence later on in August instead. Get up to date on that report by heading here.
What do you think this “reimagined” E3 will be for next year?
