It was nearly two years ago that virtual reality firm Oculus announced its first ever boundless headset, Oculus Quest. The peripheral while still containing its integrity offered a new experience of virtual reality gaming without the need to plug the unit into a PC to run the game. Instead, the hardware itself would operate independently and that negates wires from following the player in a confined space.

Arriving later that following May in 2019, the system has gone to offer a new definition of freedom for virtual reality as players can play virtually at anytime. Howbeit, the headset being the first iteration of wire-free Oculus headsets does come with some flaws. The situation also perpetuates that a newer model will follow its predecessor at a later time.

During this week’s Facebook Connect, Facebook and Facebook Reality Labs has announced the Oculus Quest 2. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

“With Quest 2, we’re taking things even further, starting with a multi-generational leap in processing power with the state-of-the-art Qualcomm® Snapdragon XR2 Platform offering higher AI capability, and 6GB of RAM,” Facebook shares in a blog post. “The new display features 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye—our highest resolution display yet.

“With 50% more pixels than the original Quest, everything from multiplayer games and productivity apps to 360° videos look better than ever. We didn’t stop there. With Quest 2’s increased graphics processing power, this new display is capable of supporting 90 Hz.” Emphasized to be the next-generation of virtual reality headsets, the Oculus Quest 2 will also support Oculus Link to still experience definitive titles on PC.

With the implementation of Oculus Link on the initial Oculus Quest, Facebook pens that standalone headsets will be prioritized leading into the coming year. Sales for the Oculus Rift S is said to cease next year, but virtual reality on PC will still live on thanks to Oculus Link, Facebook reassures.

Oculus Quest 2 will be running for $299.99 when it arrives on October 13, 2020.
