On Wednesday, Nintendo’s section at Gamescom entitled The Red Cube debuted some Super Mario Party gameplay, including a brand new mode called River Survival.

Super Mario Party goes back to their old roots after Mario Party 10 had underwhelming reviews, mostly in part due to the Wii U Gamepad gimmicks combined with players all being in the same vehicle. Although, this mechanic has not completely dissolved in Super Mario Party.

The new mode, River Survival, has everyone on the same boat careening down a river as players do their best to paddle and not get tossed overboard. At each checkpoint, everyone participates in a mini-game revolving around teamwork. With each successful mini-game, you make your way down the river that gets rougher with each section.

You can see the normal gameplay here and you can see River Survival Mode here.
