As with every title that hosts a selection of online competing lobbies for players to tough it against others, there’s typically some sort of playtest to understand where exactly the developer must work to determine what’s suited for the game leading up to launch. And Gears 5 studio The Coalition plans to do just that with a Versus Tech Test which is scheduled to take place at two times later this month.

In the blog post that announced the upcoming playtest, the developer shared that game modes such as Arcade, Escalation, and King of the Hill will be available to test the waters for the September-aimed title. As well as featuring a training mode for those less familiar to the Gears formula before jumping straight into an online lobby.

The previously mentioned Tour of Duty will also be live for players to receive tester-exclusive cosmetics for their weapons along with specific decorated banners too. The Coalition announced recently that Gears 5 will be microtransaction-free as real-world currency will not play part in how players progress online and only distributes rewards through time spent in multiplayer lobbies.

The first Versus Tech Test takes place on July 19th until the coming Monday, July 22nd the test ends. Following to July 26th will be the second playtest will initiate and runs until July 29th. As for how players are granted access to said tech test, you simply pre-order the game through the Xbox store or from select retailers based on your region. Those who receive their access key can pre-download the test’s client on July 17.

Both Xbox One users as well as Windows 10 users will be able to participate in the coming playtests: though the test will be available on both platforms, the post does not specify any cross-play taking part in the upcoming online tests.

Gears 5 will be available on September 10, 2019 for Xbox One and PC.
