Following this Tuesday’s announcement that Google Stadia will officially arrive in on November 19th next month, one big reveal that shared the same platform was that those who prefer to stick to their choice of controller can do so when using the approaching stream-homed platform. However, there is a catch for that alongside even the advertised Stadia controller also.
It went unnoticed until 9to5Google shared earlier today that Google posted a disclaimer in the “Everything You Need To Know Before Launch” overview video for Stadia that was posted alongside the service’s highlighted release date earlier this week.
At launch, wireless play with the Stadia Controller is only available on TV using Chromecast Ultra.
This abruptly discovered piece of information was then later confirmed by a Community Manager on Reddit where she verifies that playing wireless is exclusive to playing games via Google Chromcast Ultra. Upon playing on other devices, the controller when linked with a USB-C cable will play as would any controller when connected using a USB wire on other platforms.
While this went over our heads for just a short period of time, this minor detail is very misleading on how the controller is advertised for Stadia. Due to the lack of Bluetooth connectivity for the service, this does however explain a lot for how users would actually play with the support being absent. Assuming the same can also be said for your preferred controller as well if deciding to use it for other platforms atop of on the television since they are not compatible with Chromecast Ultra.
Thinking ahead of the topic at hand, the reverse can also be applied to the Stadia controller. If Google’s gamepad does fancy your picking, it is also guessed that the controller would require a USB-C cable if deciding to play it with other platforms if the it is listed to be compatible.
Google Stadia will be available next month for PC, mobile devices, and televisions.
