For industry leader Hideo Kojima, he has pioneered much for the sake of the video game world with his work on Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. And now with the most recent Death Stranding, which just announced a sequel is on the way, further elaborates on his creative wit that draws fans. Even more is his new involvement with Xbox Game Studios for an upcoming cloud title.
“I’ve waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it. With Microsoft’s cutting edge cloud technology and the change in the industry’s trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to make this never-before-seen concept,” Kojima expressed during the initial announcement. Given his wording, not many other firms offered similar security for him to proceed with his vision to pursue.
Well according to his recent discussion with IGN, he faced criticisms with this latest ambition also. The Xbox company was the only one to “showed that they understood,” Kojima puts into words as others saw this vision to be “mad.”
I tend to get easily bored. Part of why I’ve been able to make games for 30 years is because new technology replaces the old so quickly. The tech you use today may not be applicable tomorrow, and I’m interested in figuring out ways to incorporate the new. Making the wrong choice can result in failure, of course. It’s a bit like a space program in that way.
The project we’re working on with Microsoft is one I have been thinking about for five or six years already. The project required infrastructure that was never needed before, so I discussed it with lots of different big companies and gave presentations, but they really seemed to think that I was mad. It was ultimately Microsoft who showed that they understood, and now we’re working together on the project, including the technology front.
Since the initial reveal, it is unsure what this new game will be exactly. Many points towards the unannounced ‘Overdose’ which leaked online. However, it will be sometime before he can elaborate on this project. In a recent video message from Kojima Productions, he says: ”I am hoping to bring you more information on all of those next year.” Adding, “In addition to DS2, we are also preparing a completely new game as well as some visual projects.”
Elsewhere recently from Kojima Productions, the aforementioned Death Stranding is to be exploring into transmedia with a film adaptation in the works. The motion picture is said to be handled with Hammerstone Studios as well as Kojima himself as a producer on the upcoming movie. You can read the full report by heading here.
