Underworks in Hollow Knight Silksong is an area in Act 2 that lies beneath the Citadel / Choral Chambers. Underworks is a challenging biome due to its many loops, spiky passages, and lava shafts. Clawline or Grappling Hook is a unique ability that can be unlocked at The Cauldron in Underworks in Pharloom.
You need to traverse across pools of lava to reach. Defeat several enemies and uncover all secrets to make progress in this biome. You start from the entry under the Grand Gate or from the lower portion of Underworks West. Unlock access to more traversal after acquiring Clawline. In this guide, we’ll discuss how to progress in Underworks, including some useful tips and tricks.
Pick Up Delver’s Drill Tool
Begin your journey after taking the elevator ride. You need to make your way to the Underworks after passing through the Charol Chamber. Use 15 Rosaries to activate the bench and rest at it to mark it as a checkpoint. The Grand Gate to get inside the Charol Chamber is blocked.
Keep avoiding the enemies in this area and move to the narrow area filled with spikes on the right side. Move to the end and acquire Delver’s Drill Tool. This is an offensive red tool that drives downward while spinning with destructive force.
Obtain Underworks Map
Drop down before moving ahead and defeat the enemies in this area. Lower the platform to jump on it by hitting the lever. Move inside the signposted chamber on your left and locate the Bone Scroll and Underworks map from Shakra.
Speak with Loam
Move back and travel to the tight after getting the Bone Scroll. This is the area where you start exploring the area of Underworks. You will find yourself in a room filled with unique spikes. Use the dash ability to move out, but you need to move quickly. Get inside the left side and defeat Undercrank after passing through the area filled with spiky boxes.
Fighting with an Undercrank allows you to unveil a Shard Bundle in a secret room. Continue moving to the hidden area and speak with the Loam. This guy is basically powering all Underworks. Talking to him is not beneficial at this moment, but you can see the process of making a sausage.
Find the Secret Path
Move to the right and climb up to defeat different enemies till you find a sign leading to the next bench. Use 25 Rosaries to activate the bench and rest at it. Investigate the wall on the left to unveil the secret path that leads you to Memory Locket.
Defeat the Group of Enemies
Keep moving to the left and pass through multiple platforms. Be aware of the deadly spikes while navigating through the platforms and steam. The enemies are closer to you, so prepare yourself accordingly. Defeat the Undercrank and Underpoke, along with a cluster of other enemies. Kill the flying creatures and the big enemy without taking more damage.
Get Inside Charol Chambers
Eventually, you will move to the top of the beginning area. Head down to get to the bridge and hit the switch. Doing so allows you to open a secret path leading to the starting point. Return to the topmost area and take the exit on the right to leave the chamber.
Drapeflies and Drapemites are ready to attack you here in the dark corners. Continue moving up and hit the lever to get access to Charol Chambers.
Collect Lost Fleas
Make your way to the Whiteward after getting through Charol Chambers to get inside the Underworks. You will get to the other side of the barrier to get to The Cauldron. Rest at the bench after traveling to the left. Move down into the Cauldron after heading to the left side. Glide up after activating an updraft to progress further. You can also choose to move back to the other side to get to the shortcut.
However, keep descending downward by gliding up and pogoing on the foes, allowing you to avoid the enemies. Move to the left after getting to the bottom. Defeat the exploding enemies in the next area and get your hands on the Lost Fleas. Move up and turn to the left after getting to the right pass through the lava.
Acquire Spool Fragment
You will get to the arena where you need to defeat enemies like Underloft, Undersweep, Undercrank, and Underpoke. The fight can be challenging due to the numerous threats, along with other enemies. Defeating these enemies allows you to gain Spool Fragment.
Travel all the way to the back and keep moving up, where you defeat the exploding enemy past a big hall with lava.
Unlock Clawline Ability
You will get inside a tricky section with short-term platforms and lava dropping from the ceiling. Be aware of the exploding enemies and hot coals that you can’t withstand for too long. Move to these coals and use the dash to pass through the lava section.
Move back and head upward to get into the room where you can acquire the Clawline ability. When you get to the end of this room, you will finally be able to pick up the Clawline by interacting with the shrine.
Clawline is a typical hookshot grapple ability that allows you to hook onto those golden rings you see around the world. This ability is required to hook into objects like hoops or enemies. Use this ability to boost your exploration in the game, making your progression fast.
Find Twelfth Architect
Use the Clawline to move up and get out of the room after unlocking the ability. Make your way back to the bench in this section after moving through The Cauldron. Get access to Twelfth Architect by using the Grappling Hook before moving out of the Underworks.
This merchant sells valuable gear along with an Architect’s key and different tools. Make your way to the left of the NPC and defeat the Underpoke foes in the spiky area. Move down into this chamber to get another Spool Fragment by using the glide ability.
Get Access to Grand Bellway
Defeat the Trobbio to explore the final areas in The Underworks. This allows you to exit to the left and pass through Whispering Vaults. Both of these paths are linked with the Underworks. Explore this area completely and uncover all new secrets by obtaining Clawline.
You can eventually unlock a new path leading to Grand Bellway, allowing you to gain Memory Locket as a reward. This area also unlocks The Underworks with the Exhaust Organ.
