For 2025, it marks a monumental time for the Yakuza/Like a Dragon IP. This year will mark the 20th anniversary since the release of the original Yakuza that kicked off the franchise. Earlier in December 2024, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku hinted that there will be plenty to be excited for in 2025 for the series’ birthday. So far, it did so with an Among Us collaboration that acted as an event for in-game items.
Not to mention February’s Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Additionally, Nintendo Switch 2 is receiving some attention as well from RGG Studio. In November, both Yakuza Kiwami & Yakuza Kiwami 2 are to ship natively for the new console. But, fans are hopeful another high demand title is revealed. Previously, it was pressed that Kiwami 3 would come “sooner or later”, director Masayoshi Yokoyama said.
More recently, it was revealed that a new RGG Summit will be taking place later this month. On X, Ryu Ga Gotoku revealed that the presentation will be taking place on September 23rd. Not to mention that Tokyo Game Show is also taking place this month as well. On Tuesday, publisher Sega revealed its ‘Exhibited titles’ page for the event. Of the 8, four are labeled ‘Coming Soon’.
In that list confirmed, there is Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, Virtua Fighter 5: R.E.V.O. World Stage, Persona 3 Reload, and Persona 5: The Phantom X. This does leave opportunity for titles like the anticipated Yakuza Kiwami 3 to be revealed. To fuel the hype, Sega recently hosted a Steam sale for its franchise library, but, Yakuza 3 was exempt from the promotion then.
It is not a secret as RGG Studio/Sega has done something similar for its titles in the past. As for other featured titles, there is the chance more details on the team’s new IP Stranger Than Heaven is shown at Tokyo Game Show. However, what was said to expect a big update this year was the new Jet Set Radio title. You can read the full report by heading here.
