For some time now, the outcry for a new Wolfenstein has been only stinging ears as if continues to echo. While a third title did come, it was not a mainline release, but instead a co-op spin-off experience. “The fantastic co-op, level design, stealth mechanics and the Blazkowicz twins are great additions to the series, and help keep the game fun despite another round of disappointing combat,” our review for Wolfenstein: Youngblood reads. “If you’re a fan of the series, it’s an easy recommendation.”

Beyond that, there has been little word on the game’s whereabouts. Instead, MachineGames shipped Indiana Jones and the Great Circle just over a year ago. Despite that, more has been acknowledged in transmedia. It was previously confirmed that a live-action show is in the works at Amazon Prime Video behind the same production that is releasing Fallout. However, it is reported that third games in finally in motion at the developer.

And while MachineGames has yet to officially address what the third game will be, it has recently spoke on its intentions with the Wolfenstein IP. Speaking to gamesindustry.biz, it revealed that the plan for the game studio was to always return to Wolfenstein. Its current form or when is unknown, but, studio director Jerk Gustafsson told the outlet that it is adamant to make a trilogy out of the series.

“Our intention has always been to go back to Wolfenstein. We wanted to finish the trilogy. And when we do that, that is something that I don’t want to comment on. It can be now, it can be later, but we’re not done with it. That’s what I can say.” While Gustafsson could not elaborate further on the details, he did expand on the volatile business model for these AAA projects in the current state of the industry.

“I still hope that there will continue to be a market for the type of games we do, because obviously we love to do them. And to be honest, I also see less of them, especially when it comes to what we call AAA. […] What can you do in terms of being more efficient? What can we do to continue to promote our products? What can we do with our back catalogue to make sure that our older games can bring new life into those new platforms?”

Are you hoping to see the third Wolfenstein game soon?
