The Xbox image currently is a fair disassociation from what the platform was at more than a decade ago. And the fruits of said labor are already showing with last year’s performance for the brand. However, things are said to be changing with a new face at the helm of this platform, Asha Sharma. Following her transition to Xbox CEO, Sharma stated:
“For me, the spirit of ‘Return to Xbox’ is about returning to the spirit that the team was founded on. It’s that spirit of surprise, it’s the spirit of building something nobody else was willing to try — I’ve heard ‘renegade,’ ‘rebellion,’ and ‘fun.’ used.” Discussions for next-generation feels like a distant dream amid the ongoing manufacturing complications helped by the AI race. Despite that, AMD CEO Lisa Su has disclosed 2027 is still fixed for the release of the newest Xbox.
Now comes a new tease from Microsoft on Thursday hinting at its future plans for Xbox. Internally labeled as ‘Project Magnus’, the Xbox firm now offers the next console a new moniker: Project Helix. Giving some more understanding, Sharma on X elaborates and says new details will be provided at GCD coming later this month.
“Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games,” she wrote. This is actually a shared sentiment that AMD has expressed in the past pertaining to the next Xbox console. In July 2025, the CEO emphasized that the new hardware in mind will deliver what core Xbox is known for across the ecosystem including console & PC. It is also said that backwards compatibility is a major focus moving into the new console lifecycle as well.
Other details that have been confirmed comes from Epic Games. In February, CEO Epic Games Store head Steve Allison told GameFile that the intent for the publisher is to launch the storefront on Xbox fully at launch. This comes amid ongoing murmurs for Steam implementation on the new Xbox also. You can read the full report by heading here.
