In an age of rising prices & growing inflation, the discussion of a new console launch is the least of interest for consumers. This is certain as the past holiday season faced a massive decline in sales for the season with all three platforms suffering in each regard. Additionally, the AI race is also impacting when new consoles will ship too as the RAM shortage is reported to push next-generation Xbox & PlayStation from its planned releases as well.
So far, details on the next-generation Xbox has been teased with AMD confirming a new deal with Microsoft to deliver a bespoke lineup of hardware and features that pushes the new system forward compared to the preceding Xbox Series X|S. In December, Reuters also reported that a new arrangement with Foxconn is being established to prepare Xbox hardware with at least 4 million units in the coming years.
And while the discussion of a new Xbox is exciting for fans, it is believed to be too soon for a new generation just yet. But as per Tom’s Hardware, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su has stated that its partnership with Microsoft sees the next Xbox launching in 2027 next year. “Development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.”
Last year, there were ongoing rumors of Microsoft throwing in the towel on its next console. It has been reported that 2025 was the weakest year in sales for the platform, but, Microsoft has outright denied the accusations spun online. Even more, an anonymous AMD developer even verified that ‘Project Magnus’ is in active development with intent to ship commercially.
In regard to what the next Xbox will offer, Windows Central has reported that the system will be a console/PC hybrid offering abridged features that draws in a wider amount of options beyond what Microsoft’s offerings entail. Atop of plans for multiple storefronts as well, there will be an expansive number of alternatives through the new SKU from Xbox. You can read the full report by heading here.
