When exploring the different opportunities Minecraft is taking, it is no question the insight Microsoft envisioned in Mojang Studios for the $2 billion investment at the time. Recently, the Swedish developer has confirmed the next update ‘Tales & Trails’ will explore archeology whilst introducing new cherry blossom trees, bamboo crafting, and camel mobs to the game.

Additionally, Minecraft is ever-expanding with the planned motion picture on the way. From The Ankler, it is reported Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) is set to direct with Jason Mamoa (Aquaman) also attached. Not to mention the soon release for Minecraft Legends which is scheduled to arrive later this spring.

From a new discovery online, Microsoft has recently filed a trademark for ‘Ender Dragon’. For those unfamiliar, it is a legendary mob players fight at ‘The End’ in Minecraft and upon defeating it is what introduces the credits to players before returning to the overworld. However, it appears this trademark could suggest a new game is in the works for the IP.

“Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games; entertainment services, namely, providing temporary use of non-downloadable computer games; provision of information relating to electronic computer games provided via the internet; non-downloadable electronic publications in the nature of magazines, newsletters, and blogs in the field of video games,” the Goods and Services Statement reads for the filing.

Noted, the filing is handled by Microsoft, but does not attach Mojang Studios as an affiliated party. With dragon in the trademark, there is some speculation that this could be for a separate project outside of Minecraft; which is very unlikely. Howbeit, there is one monster project already in development at Certain Affinity, one report claims. You can read the full report by heading here.

What do you think this new Ender Dragon trademark implicates for Microsoft?
