The Kingdom Hearts IP remains at a standstill with its future plans still in the air as of yet. Most attention is directed at Kingdom Hearts 4. Announced back in 2022, many fans were excited to see protagonist Sora exploring real-world locations like Tokyo’s Shibuya district. However, it can as a gut-punch surprise to learn from insiders the game might not be here until 2026 at the latest for modern hardware.
Additionally, there is a new mobile game still in development. Previously, Square Enix did ship Project Xehanort/Kingdom Hearts Dark Roads. However, a new mobile endeavor was announced more recently. With a closed beta that went live last fall, Square Enix did promise a 2024 release date for the new Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.
But, it is now revealed that the game is not coming this year after all. According to a post on X from the official Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link account, the mobile title has now been delayed with no foreseeable date to expect the game.
“While preparing for the launch of ‘KINGDOM HEARTS Missing-Link’, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release. We sincerely apologize to all players who have been looking forward to the release. We appreciate your patience. Please look forward to further information,” the announcement post reads.
This is not the only plan for Kingdom Hearts it appears. According to reputable insiders, a film is also in motion at Disney. According to TheDisInsider, plans for a full-length picture are underway for a theatrical release. However, it has not been officially greenlit as of the initial report back in May this year.
