It was less than a month ago that we just learned about the swept codename ‘Viking’ which was under wraps at Criterion Games & EA Vancouver until spring 2019. The project was reported to be a spin-off entry of DICE’s Star Wars Battefront series with an open-world aspect and offer a deepening story to complement the single player experience.

Now this week, a new game has emerged thanks Twitter account @PSNRelease. While not exactly manned by a actual user – it is instead a bot that runs on an algorithm to tweet each time there is a new game listed on PlayStation Network. The account shared an image of the title with the name ‘Star Wars: Project Maverick.’

Initially, the listing was reported to be a virtual reality experience of some sort, but that was later confirmed that not to be the case. The bot’s developer @xeeynamo following the post shared the content ID for the game which opened a new perspective on the project.

The content ID reading “EP0006-CUSA19053_00-MAVERICKBETA0001” entailed for users to access the listing’s database file to truly pop the hood on the project. Going from the content ID alone insinuates that this is just the beta version of the title. However, when reading the accessible files for the project tells that this is not a VR title since the support for PlayStation VR is listed to be “no.”

Additionally, when dissecting the unearthed files for Project Maverick also discloses the game’s background music which can be heard on the PlayStation 4 home screen. Details regarding other implemented support can also be derived for Play Together; a feature allowing players with friends in the sessions to start on the Party screen.

Extracting the brief detail from Play Together support does dictate that there is multiplayer to some extent for the unknown game. Regarding further context on the project itself, there is no other information that has been gathered for the time being.

What do you think this enigmatic new game might be?
