While Nintendo is what some define their childhoods, many of the aforementioned games players reflect on is only available on the respected hardware it was intended for. However, Nintendo is slowly delivering legacy support for its memorable titles of prior hardware. Currently, Nintendo 64 is the newest addition available via Nintendo Switch Online. More interesting is there also comes a Nintendo Switch-supported Nintendo 64 controller as well.
Previously, Nintendo shipped the same treatment for the Nintendo Entertainment System & Super Nintendo Entertainment System respectively when arriving to the latest hardware. Now, the Nintendo 64 game paddle is to receive extended support for more games. Alongside the Nintendo 64 titles from the virtual library, Super Mario 3D All-Stars version of the game is now playable with a recent update.
“Super Mario 64 now supports the Nintendo Switch Online member exclusive Nintendo 64 Controller (sold separately). Players can now play this title using the same controls as found in the original Nintendo 64 release,” the description reads. Adding, “All button displays within Super Mario 64 will not reflect the Nintendo 64 controller.” This is certainly nothing new since the firm offered the same for Super Mario Sunshine in an update last November for the GameCube controller.
Additionally, Nintendo has also shipped support to other Nintendo Switch titles for other niché hardware in the past as well which should be noted. In that, Labo Toy-Con Handlebar received an update back in 2018 delivered support for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe via the gyro controls that the accessory implements.
Later on, Labo extends it reach for other prominent Nintendo Switch releases as well. For the Toy-Con Virtual Reality Headset, Super Mario Odyssey & The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild both received its own support. However, the updates shipped unique experiences solely for the accessory. You can read the full report by heading here.
