Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 3.5 million units in first four days

The Nintendo Switch 2 will go down as a historic launch for Nintendo as the company announced it has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in the first four days of release. The Switch 2 released on June 5, 2025, for $449.99, and its launch title was Mario Kart World, priced at $80.

The launch of the Switch 2 is the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware in the first four days, the company announced.

Nintendo Switch 2 is the successor to the Nintendo Switch, which is also looking to make history. It has sold over 150M units since 2017 and is getting closer to being the best-selling console of all time. 

“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” said Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser. “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.” (Thanks Nintendo.Prezly)

Earlier today, Nintendo announced Splatoon Raiders, a first-ever Splatoon spinoff releasing exclusively on the Switch 2. They also revealed that a new update for Splatoon 3 will bring enhancements for the game on Switch 2, along with new content for both versions.

Before the Switch 2 became available for pre-order, reports indicated Nintendo planned on producing at least 20 million units within its first year. They want to make the newest console available to as many customers as possible and to fight against scalpers.
