Nintendo released its latest financial results on Friday, August 1, and the company revealed the Switch 2 sold over 6 million units in its first seven weeks of launch. When the console launched in June, Nintendo announced it sold over 3.5 million units in its first four days, making it the fastest-selling console launch in history.
The launch title for Switch 2 was Mario Kart World, which sold 5.63 million units worldwide. It nearly sold the same amount as the console sold in just 25 days.
Nintendo stated in their financial results that demand for Nintendo Switch 2 is exceeding supply in many countries. They will continue to strengthen production and supply systems to deliver as much Switch 2 hardware as possible.
Nintendo Switch 2 Software Sales
Nintendo announced that Switch 2 software sales totaled 8.67 million units as of June 30, 2025. This was due to consumers purchasing the hardware bundled with Mario Kart World. Software sales decline 20.4 percent year on year to 24.40 million units. This is also because people are purchasing Switch software while owning the Switch 2.
The latest software sales also do not include the latest big release, Donkey Kong Bananza, which was released on July 17.
Later in 2025, the Switch 2 is expected to receive Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends Z-A, Drag x Drive, and Kirby Air Riders.
