
Although many conversations regarding the release and following performance of the next-generation for console hardware only includes the PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S, many forget don’t mind to include the recordings for the Nintendo Switch as well. Technically, the 2017 handheld console hybrid is in the same plane of console as its competitors.
So for the overall spectrum, Nintendo Switch remains in the lead for console performance in the market. But, that is not to disregard other achievements made by the newest models on the market. Already, the PlayStation 5 has been crowned the best-selling system of all-time in the United States by NPD Group. Additionally, sales performance for Xbox is up 232 percent this past financial quarter according to Microsoft over a month ago.
In a new statement from NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella, the Xbox Series platform is the best-selling system in dollars for the month of June. However, the Nintendo Switch for the first half of 2021 is the best-selling overall.
Noted, PlayStation 5 is performing very well already as the number of units purchased already doubled Xbox Series X|S previously. However, Microsoft’s system earned the most gross revenue last month. Despite the two systems breaking expectations, it continues to tail behind the Nintendo Switch still.
“Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform during 2021’s first half in both dollar and unit sales,” Piscatella writes. He adds by reiterating on PlayStation 5’s best-selling status in U.S. history is continued when June ended. Looking at what can continue the momentum for Nintendo is the recently announced Nintendo Switch OLED Model. Scheduled to release this October, the new version shows to be a better iteration of the base model for portable users.
