Rewinding the clock back to June 2019 prior to Square Enix’s E3 Press Conference, many were questioning what exactly Outriders will be. A new IP from Square Enix, yet no one understood which team will be working on the game. But, it was later revealed that Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly is responsible for one of the most influential release for 2021.

Ahead of the game’s release last month, Microsoft announced that Outriders would be arriving day one to Xbox Game Pass. Especially for a new series introduced, there is less to worry as more than 18 million players are actively subscribed to the service. So coming launch, many would instantly flock to the latest AAA release at the start of the month.

And as proven, the first 24 hours alone welcomed more than 100,000 players across all systems. Especially coming from the runoff of Marvel’s Avengers last fall, Square Enix is doing very well in contrast to last year already. Now, People Can Fly revealed that the first month for Outriders welcomed roughly 3.5 million players for April.

We’ve just shared some more fun stats about Outriders via our Social Channels including the fact that we surpassed 3.5 million unique players in our first month after launch!

Launching an entirely new game IP is never easy and we remain very grateful for all your support and feedback – we are still here, are continuing to listen carefully and want to assure you all that we are committed to improving and enhancing your experience throughout the coming weeks and months. We’re also looking forward to expanding Outriders in the future…

The team even acknowledges the uncertainty launching a new IP when shipping Outriders. But, it goes on to recognize the support given as more plans are to come for the project. Best noted from Ampere Analysis analyst Piers Harding-Rolls, he uses MLB The Show 21 as a prime example for new content with no direct community finding success as Xbox Game Pass is a “risk-averse” approach for new release – which also applies to Outriders as well.

In recent news regarding People Can Fly, the developer acquired Phosphor Studios. Based in Chicago, the team will be renamed to ‘People Can Fly Chicago’ and in all likelihood is to work on the new, next-generation IP already underway. You can read the initial report by heading here.
