The last game I’ll be talking about is another title from the Serenity Forge Booth. Mystic Melee is an 8-bit platformer/fighter with its physics-based movement that will blow you away.
The game’s story gives you the option to choose from 4 different characters to play throughout the game’s campaign. Each based off of certain elements: Gale the Storm Adept, Amaya the Priestess of the Falls, Torr the Storm Monk and Seraphina the Flame Runner. Master the game’s physics and each arcane wizard’s spells against the minions and monsters of the evil mage.
And use what you learned from the story and bring it to the game’s multiplayer. Cut, slice, crush, incinerate, freeze, etc. your way to win each match against your friends in local play or people in online multiplayer.
Yet again speaking with Andy Schmitt, after getting a taste of Mystic Melee I went right into asking questions to feed my need to know. How balanced are each wizard in the game? Schmitt responded with that each character is equal, but in a variety of ways. Each having different attacks, blocks and spells. And each element deals damage in their own way. Another question following asking how well the game’s been taken by those who have stopped and played. And most of it was positive. The fast movement and diversity in each character made local play fun and new each match. And Schmitt going on to say that the game is also meant for speedrunning as well. Each level having leaderboards for points and times set for the game’s campaign.
Lastly, I asked how does DLC look for the game after launch. Schmitt replying with:
We plan to release more gamemodes for the multiplayer for those who have it for early access on Steam. Like a basketball-type gamemode and king of the hill.
Mystic Melee will be available September 19th, 2017 for Steam Early Access.
