Developer Atlus although following its own release cadence that differs from annual release for many game studios & franchises has proven to be worth the extra time. From our review of Persona 3 Reload, it illustrates the quality expected from this talent. “Despite being a remake, Persona 3 Reload is undoubtedly at the forefront of mainline Persona titles.
“Fans have been asking for a re-imagining of Persona 3 for the longest time and Atlus has finally answered their calls. The game appeals to both fans and newcomers of the series, as it offers a compelling story, memorable characters, and addictive gameplay, all through a modern lens.” Enough to explain how the game sold over a million units within its first week of release.
However, some of the processes it goes through to offer these memorable experiences is quietly overlooked. Speaking to The Verge however, game director Katsura Hashino elaborates that making the extravagant menus for its titles are extremely annoying.
In general, the way most game developers make UI is very simple. That’s what we try to do as well — we try to keep things simple, practical, and usable. But maybe the reason that we’ve achieved both [functionality and beauty] is that we have unique designs that we make for each and every menu. This is actually really annoying to do.
“We have separate programs running for each of them as well. Whether it’s the shop menu or the main menu, when you open them up there’s a whole separate program running and a separate design that goes into making it. It takes a lot of time,” Hashino added. And this trend has carried forward with its new game – Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Even more, the bar is even higher as the new title is Atlus’ first full-scale RPG. Atop of that with the game’s release coming this week, players do have the chance to sample the game. On Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, a Prologue Demo is available to experience the newest game from Atlus. You can read the full report by heading here.
