The recent firmware update pushed by Sony which introduces the beta of the long due name changes for PlayStation Users has arrived recently, for users who have been invited to test out the new feature. As the option to change your PSN user is still not officially available, it was assumed problems would be met once the beta was out in the wild.
According to users on ReserEra, players who have been selected for the firmware update also received an warning with the invite that problems will be faced when using the name change feature. These “software restrictions” in update 6.10 will affect the functionality of both games and apps when being used under the latest firmware installation.
What seems to be the most costly to those who are testing the new update is risking to lose data for their PSN account. Which falls under game saves, paid downloadable content, stats & leaderboard scores, and trophies. Lesser problems faced is your previous PSN handle still being visible after changing the username.
With the option to revert to your original user is available, it is stated that this might still not resolve all problems faced during the preview. Reverting to your prior PSN ID will cost no additional charge if decided to do.
As it was mentioned previously that titles younger than April 1, 2018 will be compatible with name changes; there’s also a handful of older games that will work with the feature also, such as: Grand Theft Auto V, Rocket League, BloodBorne, Absolver, and Just Cause 3.
The rest of PlayStation owners who are unable to test the feature can expect it to arrive shortly after the transition into 2019.
