The main focus today looks to be directed right over Sony’s head regarding the PlayStation 5 following a handful of reports that broke today. It was disclosed moments before that the firm is preparing to showcase the next-generation console in an hour-long presentation this coming Thursday. Even more, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan confirms that the Sony will continue to participate in these hosted shows with more scheduled to take place leading to the system’s release.
Elsewhere in a new report, Ryan talks with gamesindustry.biz about the current plans for the system without unveiling the juicier details saved for next week’s show. In that, Ryan again reaffirms that the currently slated timeframe for the PlayStation 5 is still a go. He does clarify that this will be the global launch which shows the current pandemic cannot hinder Sony’s ambitions for the system to ship successfully.
What really raised some eyebrows is the closing statement that Ryan told the outlet regarding PlayStation 5 titles. While these projects have yet to properly be revealed as of yet – since they will be shown in the approaching event – Ryan tells that their chances to also release on PlayStation 4 is not likely.
We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.
This happens to play in contrast to the route that Microsoft is following for Xbox Series X. The firm shared that the coming system while offering the next standard for gaming will not be supplied unique titles for the unit for the first year or two. Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty explained that the company looks to ease the transition to the new console by supplying the same software to both platforms.
Emphasis on software will play a larger part for Microsoft this coming generation and that will of course be a leading role into swaying players into purchasing the Xbox Series X. Howbeit, alike with PlayStation 5 currently, we are unfamiliar for the most part on first-party software aside from Halo Infinite and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. Microsoft did officially disclose that a full showcase will be taking place sometime in July to show off the progress secretly at work from Xbox Game Studios.
What is your opinion on Sony not supporting next-generation games for PlayStation 4?
PlayStation 5 is framed to ship sometime in holiday 2020.
