Report: Mario Kart 8 Now The Best Selling Racing Game In U.S. History

Upon viewing the entirety of Nintendo’s licensed properties throughout its three decades of shaping the video game market, the firm is planning to evolve that even more moving forward. In that, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa stated to be investing in new IPs while still supporting its homegrown franchises as well.

But upon reflecting on some of its most successful releases to date, you might be surprised. Given the number of chatter in regards to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, any of the Pokémon titles, or even Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart is currently the hottest seller for Nintendo. Upon combing its IR Financial reports, Mario Kart 8 is the top-seller for both the Wii U & Nintendo Switch respectively.

But even more, the 2014 release now happens to be the best selling racing title of all time in the United States. As per a thread for the market’s performance from March 2021, Mario Kart 8 is the highest-selling racing title recorded.

Similarly, we witnessed a familiar response to Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 4 on PC’s Steam. With the game’s release and furthermore the franchise’s debut on the storefront, Forza Horizon 4 happens to be the most influential release within the racing game genre as of now. But in terms of sales within the U.S. divided between two platforms, Mario Kart 8 is crowned the victor.

Elsewhere in the same thread of industry selling news, NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella tells that the PlayStation 5 is now the most successful console in history.
