Recently leaked and later revealed title Rage 2 to launch in 2019, developer id Software confirms with GameStar that the upcoming title will not have loot boxes.
In the translation by USGamer, German-based GameStar interviewed id Software Studio Head Tim Willits states and later confirmed by Bethesda that Rage 2 will not have loot boxes. But instead will have a live service to keep players constant with the game. Willits to GameStar, that the developers of the game “want people to play Rage 2 longer”, answering to if Rage 2 will have a game service.
Similar to Overwatch or Rainbow Six Siege, id Software will have post-launch content and events to keep the game new to players who constant the game when it releases. A good substitute to loot boxes as the team plans to take a more traditional approach so players can purchase and play.
