Although among the ranks of first-person shooters, Respawn Entertainment has remained a staple in modern titles. While only here for a fragment compared to teams at DICE, Infinity Ward, and Treyarch, the Electronic Arts-owned studio has proven to push the envelope when it comes to AAA releases. The most recent happens to be the release for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Our review for the game gave it a 9/10 at release.
Additionally, the team still remains occupied with Apex Legends as Season 17 – Arsenal arrived this week. Not to mention its commitment to deliver a decade-spanning project as promised in a previous statement. Respawn Entertainment is also transparent on its other Star Wars projects: a new first-person shooter and a RTS title as well.
Now according to one interview with Axios Gaming, the game studio is also searching for its next original IP. While the team has yet to grasp on a concrete decision yet, founder Vince Zampella told Titanfall series director Steve Fukuda is to helm the project. “The mission is to find the fun in something new,” says Zampella on the “skunkworks” and “very small” endeavor.
As for the current standing at Respawn Entertainment, the team recently faced reports of one canned internal project. Codenamed ‘Titanfall Legends’, it was a hybrid installment that directly bridges titular Titanfall and battle royale Apex Legends. The game was said to be story-driven experience starring Apex Predator & Apex Games founder Cuban Blisk as the playable protagonist. Zampella recently clarified Titanfall 3 is still not in the works also.
Moreover, there was a separate report from a previous job listing which mentioned a new IP was underway at Respawn Entertainment. The posting did mention “adventuring forever” which did entice those during the initial discovery. Perhaps that is still a concept into this latest report? What do you think Respawn Entertainment will deliver for its next major IP?
