The roadmap for the Assassin’s Creed IP is brimming with new additions. The most recent installment – Assassin’s Creed Shadows – Rectify Gaming scored the Feudal Japan-set title an 8.5/10. “Assassin’s Creed Shadows successfully revitalizes the franchise by introducing a compelling setting, well-developed characters, and innovative gameplay mechanics. Its blend of action, stealth, and cultural immersion offers a rich and engaging experience that both honors the series’ roots and pushes its boundaries.”

Looking ahead, Ubisoft also revealed more plans for prior work as well. Recently, it unveiled free DLC for 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage that will be set in Saudi Arabia. Beyond the two latest titles, there are two other titles still on the way. Ubisoft is still working on the mobile exclusive Assassin’s Creed Jade as well as piecing together the other internal effort ‘Project Hexe’ that focuses on the witch hunt of 16th century central Europe.

And although Ubisoft is just kicking off its premium plans for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, new efforts internally for the IP were scrapped according to a new report. From GameFile, it is revealed that Ubisoft was actively interested in pursuing a title that followed the events of the American Civil War that focused its plot on a former slave during the emergence of the Ku Klux Klan.

Sources that spoke with the outlet pressed that excitement was strong for the game initially, but was brushed over with disappointment when the publisher cancelled the project. “Too political in a country too unstable, to make it short,” a source said the reasoning for the decision. It is believed that the response to Yaskue in this year’s release was a major reason for the game not moving forward. Ubisoft was very firm on its addition of the character, but appears not to share the same sentiment for this project.

In the past, we’ve seen Ubisoft leadership strongarm developers on inclusive castings for its games. Previously in 2020, it was reported that many leading developers were strongly against more female casts for the IP around the time of Assassin’s Creed Unity and even Syndicate – why it was shared with a male.
