The current situation at Warner Bros. Games continues to show a radical shift in its operations. Recently in February, the publisher announced the closure of Monolith Productions. Subsequently canceling the Wonder Woman project, it was also discovered that the Nemesis System is to remain in its possession for at least another decade, according to public patent filings.

As of late, more developments on ‘what ifs’ at Warner Bros. Games has surfaced online. Bloomberg reported that Warner Bros. Montreal was working on a Flash game that was shuttered following the poor performance for the film in 2023, And, Constantine was even pitched at Warner Bros. too, but it never advanced that far.

Speaking on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Jason Schreier told that Warner Bros. Montreal is nearing to be repurposed into a support team. That it is currently pitching a Game of Thrones title, and based on how that is taken by Warner Bros. will dictate what the team will be doing in the near future. You can watch the segment in the video below:

“There was a lot of…I think there was a belief from WB in Burbank that WB Games Montreal- couldn’t be trusted to make new games after Gotham Knights was such a failure, and that they should become a support studio. And while some of these pitches were going on, a lot of the people from Montreal got put on Wonder Woman. And even some other games throughout the org, and so they essentially were turned into a support studio for WB.

“But Burbank didn’t want to say that to the company […]  so instead they kept dangling like this idea that they could pitch something new. I believe the current state of things is that they’re pitching a new Game of Thrones game, so we’ll see if that happens.” In the past, there has been evidence to a DCU project for Warner Bros. Montreal, but currently it appears the big break for the developer is Game of Thrones.

Elsewhere prior, Warner Bros. Discovery has emphasized that its refocus for gaming is centered around four franchises: “Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC in particular Batman,” said CEO David Zaslav. You can read the full report by heading here.
