Last year fans of the Resident Evil series continued to eat good with Capcom celebrating 25 years of the franchise. For Oculus Quest 2 owners, the classic Resident Evil 4 was getting a port for the virtual reality peripheral. Additionally, Resident Evil 8 also arrived for new and then-current hardware at the time.

Noted, the latest installment received next-generation versions for Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5. As expected, the publisher wanted to support the newest hardware on the market with better graphical output, improved performance, and even touch on raytracing at the time. Now, the same story is said to be coming to previous Resident Evil games later this year.

In a new announcement from Capcom on Twitter, Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake are all receiving enhancements for the latest console hardware later on. Atop of that users can expect these updates to be free for no additional cost.

The announcement comes in two surprises: the decision for the initiative nearly a year after the release of Resident Evil 8 and the choice not to charge for the upgrades. It should be noted that Capcom during the launch of the newest Xbox & PlayStation shipped a new version of Devil May Cry V, but only offered it as a separate purchase option unlike this circumstance with Resident Evil.

It is not to say we anticipate Capcom or any company to just hand over free updates for the latest consoles out there, but to question the decision after a similar action was made in the past where Capcom was asking for a set price. More so, we recently questioned why these enhancements are expected to be free in a new editorial on the matter.

As for other Resident Evil news, Capcom is expected to deliver the next Remake experience for its most sold entry – Resident Evil 4. As per Video Game Chronicles, it is told the publisher is preparing an announcement soon with a 2022 release date already in place. You can read the full report by heading here.
