The craft that follows developer Respawn Entertainment is a medium that the gaming market is just experiencing the overall potential of with the latest release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order alongside Apex Legends which shadow dropped last February. While a majority of players glimpsed over the studio’s debuting Titanfal due to platform exclusivity and the following sequel with Battlefield 1 overshadowing the game’s release, it is understandable as to why the team’s work is being a major hit now.
We witnessed the successes of Apex Legends earlier this year as the game officially surpassed 70 million players within its first year. Granted the game is free to install, but to combat against the also free Fortnite is quite the obstacle to take on. Followed by the commercial achievement that Jedi: Fallen Order came out to be as it swiftly became the highest selling title for publisher Electronic Arts last year.
Now following the recent financial report for the publisher, the two games continue to impress. According to the report, Electronic Arts have extended the company’s projections for Jedi: Fallen Order sales figures. Initially expecting the title to sell between roughly 6 to 8 million units have now extended to 10 million before the end of the fiscal year, March 21, 2020.
As for the ongoing Apex Legends battle royale, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson shares that the game has exceeded active player count following the debut of Season 3 alongside the second map, World’s Edge.
Season Three was bigger than Season Two with higher peaks in daily active users. Within those seasons, in-game events are engaging players with content and challenges that show the imagination and creativity that we are continually pouring into the experience.
Wilson then goes on to reiterate how the online-only experience has been ushered to other forms of entertainment and accessibility. Mainly with the introduction of the Apex Legends Global Series which he discloses sponsor backing the event i.e. Lenovo, Gillette, and Pizza Hut.
Looking from the continuously expanding background of merit that Respawn Entertainment accumulates from their software, 2020 is expected to introduce even more later on. The team already promising that an entire year of support will be unloaded unto Apex Legends in 2020 atop of the anticipated return for Medal of Honor with Above & Beyond for Oculus Rift only builds more excitement for the studio.
