Victrix by PDP has sent us one of its newest controllers for competitive gamers and it’s the Victrix Pro BFG Controller for Xbox. This controller is unique in that it features a Customizable and Modular Design which is something we haven’t really seen from many of the large controller companies.

What does the modular design exactly mean? Well, on each side of the controller where the Analog Sticks, D-Pad, and Buttons go, those are modules and you will be able to replace those with something like Hall Effect Modules.

Victrix Hall Effect Module

The new Hall Effect Module Pack for Pro BFG Wireless Controllers is a performance upgrade for players who are looking to get more out of the premium controller. It will reduce wear and tear and extend the Victrix Pro BFG’s lifespan. The great part about these is that they are universal so it would be able to work on the PlayStation version of this controller.

The Hall Effect Modules are $39.99 and they are extremely easy to install. From my experience, I noticed a difference right away when replacing the original modules with the Hall Effect’s. The best part about these is that you can still change the D-Pad and Analog Sticks from what you originally bought the controller with.

If you are someone who loves using the Pro BFG Controller I would highly recommend getting these Hall Effect Modules. The price for these is perfect for an upgrade and you will get your money’s worth. When installing these you’ll have to use the Victrix Control Hub to re-calibrate the control sticks just in case.

Pro BFG Controller Experience

As soon as you put your hands on the Pro BFG Controller you will notice an immediate difference when it comes to comfortability and the grips. Compared to an ordinary $60 Xbox controller there is that premium feeling and that’s expected with the price of this type of controller.

There were no issues connecting to my Xbox or PC. It synced up perfectly to both platforms without a problem.

One of the features that I love about this controller is the Rumble Motors and the Impulse Triggers it comes with. In the Victrix Control Hub, you can set the rumble to your liking. Of course, just like many other pro controllers, you can re-map the buttons to set them as you prefer.

The paddles on the back of the Pro BFG Controller are useful, but I sometimes accidentally activate them when I don’t mean to, which can override my actions in a game. The way the triggers are on this controller may not be for everyone and this is one of the negatives that I can see from different players.

Another really neat feature that I haven’t seen on a controller is a module for Fighting Games. The Pro BFG Controller benefits fighting game players with the Fighting Pad Module that comes with 6 buttons as you will see on other fighting sticks. I have personally never seen or owned a controller that is made to benefit competitive fighting game players. The best part of this module is that it is included in the controller case.

The only other placements that I do not like on this controller are where the Start, Menu, and Image buttons are placed. When you are someone who uses an ordinary Xbox controller the placements can be tricky and you may accidentally take images or videos of gameplay. This was only a small issue I had when it came to the placement of buttons.

Victrix Control Hub

As mentioned earlier, with the Victrix Control Hub that is available on PC, you’ll be able to re-map all of your buttons to how you like them so if you wanted one of the paddles to act like Y, you can do that. You can also set how much rumble you prefer in the controller and set the dead zones.

You’ll also be able to change the Mic Monitoring, Mute Mic, select an audio mode and there is a volume adjustment. There are definitely a lot of options to configure the controller to your liking.

Overall, the Victrix Pro BFG Controller is definitely a premium controller that you should consider purchasing if you are looking to upgrade. However, its price tag of $179.99 might be considered steep especially if a dedicated player wants to invest in the Hall Effect Modules.

What matters most are comfort and performance, and the Pro BFG Controller for Xbox excels in both areas.
